Value-Based Reports

Mercer provides a variety of solutions to value benefit plans starting at a high level comparison of your plans against a peer group, moving to more in depth analysis of your total remuneration package. Each report provides information on Retirement/Savings, Health and Group, Paid Leave, Life/Disability, and Work Life benefit plans providing an opportunity to:

  • Assess the competitiveness of your benefits package.
  • Target potential plan changes.
  • Enhance your employee communications.

Mercer’s benefits database is continuous and updated each month and contains information on:

  • Retirement/Savings: Defined benefit, defined contribution, and stock purchase plans.
  • Paid Leave: Vacation, holiday, personal leave, PTO banks, and sick leave.
  • Life/Disability: Life Insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disbility.
  • Health/Group: Medical, dental, flexible spending accounts, and post-retirement medical plans.
  • Work Life Benefits: Work flexibility, wellness/fitness, family assistance, and financial assistance.

Basic Benefits Valuation Analysis (Basic BVA)

The Basic Benefits Valuation Analysis (Basic BVA) compares the value of benefits versus the custom peer group, including relative rank and index. This analysis generates a common dollar value for benefit plans with varying plan designs and provisions. Statistical comparisons create an “apples to apples” view of your plans to those of the peer group. Use Basic BVA for:

  • Positioning your plan benefits by rank and index.
  • Using the market replacement value to show the estimated amount of pretax salary needed to replace the employer-provided benefits.
  • Detailed descriptions of plan provisions for the peer group.
  • Synopsis of results, plus an optional PowerPoint.

Mercer removes impact of geographical differences, claims experience, and negotiating influences to hone analysis on design only.

Enhanced Benefits Valuation Analysis (Enhanced BVA)

This report offers all the information included in the Basic BVA as noted above plus 11 sample employee profiles with varying employee demographic data (age, service, salary, marital status). The Enhanced BVA will allow you to compare your benefits against your selected peer group as well as display gaps in coverage among employees within your own organization

Total Remuneration Index

The Total Remuneration Index (TRI) is the most complete and comprehensive report that expands on the Benefits Valuation Analysis by including employee salary — determining a Total Reward Value for jobs by combining the effect of the differences in both pay and benefit design. The TRI report helps you see how all the pieces fit together and if changes are needed. Use TRI for:

  • Extensive compensation and benefits benchmarking.
  • Benchmark your total remuneration values to a specific peer group.
  • Market analysis specific to your organization.
  • Total rewards strategy development.
