Gain an internationally recognised certification

The role of a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®) in the workplace is to be a point of contact for an employee who is experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress. Mental health first aiders contribute to a positive work environment, promoting wellbeing and morale among colleagues, ultimately enhancing team dynamics.

Course option 1: Mental Health First Aider (two days)

The Mental Health First Aider 2-day course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to identify signs of poor mental health in others, initiate conversations about mental health, and guide individuals towards appropriate support.

This course is ideal for individuals who want to become certified Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders®) and receive three years of certification. Internationally recognised, the course covers a wide range of topics, including understanding mental health and mental health issues, providing initial help, and promoting self-care and wellbeing.

Course participants will gain:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing.
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
  • Confidence to step in, reassure, and support a person in distress.
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills, such as non-judgemental listening.
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them towards further support – whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix.

Delegate numbers are limited to minimum of 8 and maximum of 16 per course.

Course option 2: Mental Health First Aid Champion (one day)

The Mental Health First Aid Champion one-day course focuses on raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental health. This course is suitable for individuals who want to gain a basic understanding of mental health and learn how to support others in their mental health journey. The course covers topics such as understanding common mental health issues, promoting mental health and wellbeing, and providing initial support to someone experiencing a mental health problem.

This one-day course trains employees as an MHFA Champion, giving them:

  • An understanding of common mental health issues.
  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness.
  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health.
  • Skills to support positive wellbeing.

Course option 3: Mental Health First Aid Refresher (half day)

Perfect for existing Mental Health First Aiders and MHFA Champions to maintain their skills. The four-hour refresher course will support Mental Health First Aiders and MHFA Champions by:

  • Renewing their skills.
  • Updating their knowledge of mental health support.
  • Giving them the chance to practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan.

Enabling your Mental Health First Aiders and MHFA Champions to refresh their skills, the same way your physical first aiders do, is a great way to demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to treating mental health and physical health equally.

Investing in the course will give you the confidence that your Mental Health First Aiders and MHFA Champions are performing their role safely and effectively and should be attended every three years in order for their certificates to be valid.
